I have a column in Excel 2007 that is defined as Text. In every cell except for 1 the data shows as it should. In the 1 cell all I can see is the # sign across the cell. I've triple checked the formatting and it is formatted as Text with Word Wrap turned on Just like every other cell in that column. The other cells have shorter and Longer Text Strings in their cells. What am I missing that this 1 cell is different even though it's formatted the same as all cells in that column??????

hi,

what is the actual VALUE in that cell?

EDIT the cell (F2) and hit [ENTER]

It is about 3 sentences of Text. I hit (F2) Added a space between the sentences and hit [ENTER] Nothing changed. The Text is there and is readable when I'm in the cell but as soon as I exit the cell I get the # signs

I just came across this a couple of weeks ago. You have too many characters than the cell can handle. Set the format to general and see if that makes a difference. It should.

Failing that, break up your text to fill two cells.

A man has only two choices: He can be right or he can be happy.

Just saw your post from 15:28. You can separate your text by hitting ALT/Enter. This will put a line feed within the text.

That's not it because another cell in the same column is longer and displays correctly.

And in addition to what xlhelp suggested, the only reason to set a range format to TEXT is if you are entering ALL numeric characters that are not numbers but identifiers (including what could be interpreted by Excel as Dates, but are not or scientific notation but is not), including but not limited to...
[tt]
1/1
171E2
02178
[/tt]
all of which could be converted to something other than what was entered.

Actually I guess that was it. I did as suggested and changed to General and it now displays correctly. Thanks
