Excel Summing Values from cells with Text

I got this tip off a weekly email I get:

and I typed in EXACTLY what the formula says from the diagram

(except that it is C7 & not C8, I tried both but they got it wrong it is C7 & they say "the result in B8" about the result that is really in B7)

and it returns 0. what did I do wrong?
