Everytime I start excel a message pops up that is titled Microsoft Visual Basic and the message reads Compile Error: Can't find project or library. The only options are Ok and help.

The screen right behind it is titled GWXL97.xla - Startup Macro (code). and under the Sub SetLanguageStrings(), the words "ret =" are highlighted.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? I have tried reinstalling the entire office but it still comes up with the same message. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Jerry Cisneros

Hi jercisneros,

This is caused by an error in the startup macro - possibly a 'real' error, but more likely a missing reference. The VBA compiler has found a term which it believes to be the name of a procedure and cannot find that procedure in any referenced library.

In the VBA Editor, Select Tools > References and see if any selected libraries in the list start with "MISSING:". If so, you'll need to identify what they are, and more importamtly where to find them. If not, then you have a different code error of some sort and will probably need to contact the author.

Enjoy,
Tony
