I have a spreadsheet that is keeping averages on the bottom of the column. The problem is that if all the cells in the column are not filled in i get xxxxx in the average box. I'm trying to figure out how I can keep a running average that gives the current value of the above averages based only on the cells filled in that changes as I ad figures to blank cells within the column.

Try the countif function. The help menu will give you more info.

Average of noting or zero values will give you an error.

My standard for keeping this from happening is to use sum to insure there is something to average first.

IF(SUM(A1:A20)=0,0,AVERAGE(A1:A20)) [sig][/sig]
