Hi

Have a client who spent all weekend modifying spreadsheets in 2003 and saving them "under a different name"

Ok the files are now not there. Does office 2003 save a backup of the file on save?. Thought it did.

Also as an aside in file browser I can see 8gb of excel files yet using the xp search tool only two files are listed.

Strange

Any ideas anyone?

thanks

Ian

Hi,

The originals, before the SaveAs, should all be there.

"Under a different name" What does that mean?

Where did the user think that he/she saved the workbooks?

perhaps search by date "

...and, assuming that the user saved to his/her local drive, search in the c: drive on that day's date.

Hi

wasn't sure if files were saved with a .bak or 001 extension in 2003. I'll do a search tomorrow

cheers

My first thought - open Windows Explorer, then go to Tools > Folder Options. On the View tab, make sure to check the option Files and Folders > Hidden files and folders > [!]Show hidden files and folders[/!]

Where do you see those 8GB worth of files in the "file browser"?

What do you mean by "XP search tool"? Are you talking about "Desktop Search"? Or the good ol' search with a little character on the screen?

Hi

the good old search with the character and all the clients data is stored in a folder called tenders which contains predominently speread sheets. A highlight all and proporties reveals about 8gb of data.

Most of it is multi sheet spreadsheets with formulae

cheers
