excel references for count possible lookup??

i want to add a selection of data set against a userid set in another cell on the sheet in excel.

the data is as value is a1-a100 are monetary values
userids are d1-d100 are individuals

lots of other data in other columns; that cannot be re-sorted.

need to calculate the total value of userid's transactions without re-sorting data in to ascend/descend values.

please help, i am sure i have done this before but the weather has made my brain swell and i can't remember how to.

I think you're talking about the SUMIF function but I don't fully understand your question.

Do you just want to add up all A1:A100 or just the ones that meet a certain UserID criteria?

If the latter is the case then you want the SUMIF Function and it takes the form:

=SUMIF(A1:A100,UserID,D1100) Bri
