Hi All,

I am sure this is a simple one but my brain's fried. I think I did it in A-level IT 15 years ago, but can't remeber what the formula was.

In book1, ColumnA has a list of names; who use a particular piece of software.

In book2, ColumnA has another list of names. Some of these names are the same as in book1.

In book2, columnB, what formula would I need to create a value such as "Duplicate" if the user is found in both lists.

I have a feeling VLOOKUP might help, but I can't get it to do what I want.

Maybe a good nights sleep will help.

Many thanks in advance.

hi
try something like this

=if(isna(vlookup(a1,'book1ColA',1,0)),"no match","duplicate")

used to form the basis of thousands of checks in my last job!!

If a man says something and there are no women there to hear him, is he still wrong? [ponder]
How do I get the best answers?

Hi Loomah,

Thanks very much. That works a treat.
