Hi,

I have two users, one who has a 1gb ram.

They complain that excel takes won't open sometimes. its slow, and it crashes they machine, if they open spreedsheet that aren't small ( but not hudge)

I have seen on one machine that in process excel is running 3 or 4 times when it isn't actually open.

I have re-intalled office on one, no difference.
I have checked for spyware
There are no links on some sheets

We do have a downloads addin for our erp system, but my collegue doesn't think this is the problem as it is only these two users and they are in different departments

any particular workbooks or all of them?
what OS?
what version of excel?
how and when does this happen?

Rgds, Geoff

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Please read FAQ222-2244 before you ask a question

sorry,

all spreedsheets. The os is XP pro sp2, and office xp sp3 fully patched.

It happens whne they open excel and the one guy said that a reboot helps for 30 mins ( so opening a spreedsheet or 2) then its slow again.

ok - does it happen when they open 1 spreadsheet only??

does it start a new process for each spreadsheet opened?

what happens if they create a new workbook from scratch ?

There is an XLB file on the system that carries any customizations applied to Excel. Have you tried renaming or deleting the file? Try it and then re-start Excel and see if that helps.

Me transmitte sursum, Caledoni!

Just a little info on the XLB file (would be my first suggestion too), it's generally under 100k, around 10-30. If it's any bigger than that, it's generally considered bloated.

Also, maybe these will help..

.. and the mother of all troubleshooting guides (by Mark Henri himself)..
