For some reason a user has been working fine with Office XP. Now when she opens a spreadsheet and goes up to file save - her computer powers off. This also happened in Word for the first time yesterday.

I have changed out power strips and uninstalled and reinstalled office. I have asked if this is on every spreadsheet but it is hard to get a straight answer - and I have about 100 other things pulling me away from this problem.

Any thoughts?

This probably has nothing to do with Office or Windows and is more likely a hardware problem. However, it will need some effort to diagnose the problem and not clairvoyance.

I expect that she probably uses Excel mostly, which is why the problem manifests mostly when she is finishing in Excel.

The problem could be a graphics card fault or a CPU or power supply fan failure.

You're going to have to spend some time diagnosing this even if there is 100 other things pulling you away.

One tip - uninstalling and reinstalling Office rarely resolves any problems because the registry, and all users customisations and global templates are not touched by the procedure.
