I hope you can help me with this issue. (Our versions are: Impromptu 5.0, Excel 97, MS Excel Driver 4.0)

I am trying to use Excel as of my datasource in Imprompty. I have done the following:
-defined the range in Excel
-setup an ODBC for Excel
-defined it as another db source in Impromptu.

However, when I try to create a NEW catalog using the Excel file, I always get a Dr. Watson error when Impromptu is about to make the connection. This is also happening when I use text as a data source.

Does anyone know what versions of ODBC, Excel is compatible or not compatible?

Thank you!
Maya

Maya,

How current is your version of MDAC? Have you tried to access the data via another ODBC call (such as MS Access or Get External Data in Excel).

Do the first 10 rows of your Excel data contain representative data for the columns they are in. As Excel ODBC driver doesn't set datatypes, it infers it from the first rows of data seen.

Check these items out and get back to us.

Thank you Dave.

-Our MDAC version is 2.6
-Yes, the first 10 rows are consistent representatives for the columns the are in. (however, there are some null fields in the first 10 columns. will this be a problem?)
-I will try to access data through another ODBC call and let you know.
-I've also tried it over again and this time, after going to Catalog>New and specifying the source, I receive this error message: Error number -80:

DMS-E-GENERAL, A general exception has occurred during operation 'attach direct'.
DMS-E-DBINFOSYNTAX, A syntax error was detected while parsing 'Error Unknown' in file 'F:\Apps\COGNOS\COGAPPS\COGDMod.ini'

Any experience with this?

Thanks,
Maya
