Excel opens with document.

Excel 2000 opens up with an existing document. Never as a new document, I renamed the document but it still opens up with it in place, now under the new name. Any clues?

Is Excel opening a rescued document every time?
Purge the TEMP folder (probably C:\WINDOWS\TEMP)

This also sounds like a virus. Make sure your virus software is up to datè.

Sounds like Nimda virus.
Is the Excel spreadsheet one that you have created, or is it a listing of file names?
Go to the Symantec website ( and download the Nimda removal tool. Note that if the "A" strain of the virus is not present, you may have the "E" strain, which requires a different removal tool, also found on the Symantec site.
