When Excel97 is opened it also opens a lot of files from the hard disk. The operating system is Win NT 4.0 Workstation. Who knows why this happens?

Excel opens files by itself 1

Hit Start-Find-Files or Folders and type in:
xlstart
Make sure you're searching your entire C, including subfolders, and hit enter. Double-click the folder(s) that come up and get the files out of there! Move them someplace else--Excel opens all files in the XLSTART directory on launch. If that doesn't work, go to Tools-Options and see what the alternate start directory is. Either delete the entry there OR move the files out of that directory as well.
