I have workbook and on one of the sheets I have 50 tables so far. The data in the tables is brought through links to another file. The problem I have is that it is opening the source file when I open the workbook. I have a lot of links in there and I think it might have something to do with them but they all look the same. This wouldn't really be a problem but excel craps when I try to close the workbook. Any ideas on how I can stop the other workbook form opening would be really appreciated.

Check Tools Options Calculation - Update Remote References.

I don't think Excel should actually be "opening" the file tho. Are you sure it's open, and not just being "read" ?

Its checked to update Remote References. And yes I'm quite sure its opening the source file. Its opening it Hidden. When I go to Windows->Unhide is active and when I click in their I see the file name. I really am stumped about this.

It was the links after all. I had created them with 2 instances of Excel97 open, copying in one then swithching to the other and pasting special. I removed the links and am going to start them over. Thanks for the help though.
