Hi

Does anyone know of a way of applying a multiplier to a column of figures ?
eg. Multiply all cells in a column by 2.87 leaving the result in the same cells in the same column.

Many thanks

Paul

Type 2.87 in a cell. Copy it. Highlight your column with the data in it. Select Edit > Paste Special > select "Multiply" from the context menu. OK.

Paul

=A1*2.87 would multiply the contents of cell A1 by 2.87.

What do you mean when you say "leaving the result in the same cells in the same column"?

Many thanks it worked a treat.

I wanted all the figures in say column A to be multipied by 2.87 but the result to remain in column A

Thanks

Paul

Hmmm help me out.

Select Edit > Paste Special > (I only see radio buttons for unicode text and text) there's no option to select "Multiply" from the context menu.

mcallisto,

I think I read you...
First, type in a hypothetical number that you would be multiplying by (into any cell). Now Copy that number. Edit > Paste Special > now you should be seeing several options on a menu under headings "Paste" and "Operation."

Ahhh....not actually "copy that number" but "copy that cell"

now it works!!! and has endless possibilities !!

Much Thanks

mcallisto,
...my bad...sorry for muddying the water...Copy the cell would have been much more clear.
