Excel Merged Cells Doesn't Expand Row Height

Hi All

I don't know whether this is a bug or is there by design

Here is the situation:-
On an Excel worksheet select a cells and set the wraptext flag to be on then input a very long string. The height of the row changes automatically. This is understandable.

Now try the same thing but with 3 merged cells, wraptext flag on and a very long string. The height of the row doesn't change!! Why Not ??

Does anyone know of a way that I can programmatically make excel expand the row height of merged cells which have wraptext set to yes and contain a very long string .
