Hi,

I'm trying to save a macro to a worksheet that can be used by any user from any station, but I keep getting error messages.

Any suggestions?

Rougy

Rougy,

Some thoughts...

1) First you need to save the file to a folder on the server to which all users have access.

2) To guard against more than one user wanting to access the file at the same time, as well as guard against users saving (unwanted) changes to the file, you should use the "Properties" function to "write-protect" the file. This will allow users to open the file, but will force them to save the file in a directory of their own choice IF they want to save any changes.

3) IF, on the other hand, you want all users to be able to enter data into this file, and implicity SAVE the changes to the same file, then this suggests that your problem lies with some of the users NOT having access to the folder in which you placed the file.

Hope this "general" commentary helps. Hopefully, with this commentary, you'll be able to use it to either resolve your problem, or to provide FURTHER clarification regarding the SPECIFIC error messages you are getting.

Thanks Dale,

First off - do you know how to change the 'personal.xls' file from read-only to editable?

Rougy

Rougy,

To change the "Personal.xls" file to make it editable, use the following steps:

1) Activate Windows Explorer ...tip - the EASIEST way is to use <Windows Key> "E" - i.e. hold down the "Windows" key and hit "E".

2) Go to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\XLStart"

3) "Right-Click" on the "Personal.xls" file.

4) Choose "Properties" (last item on bottom).

5) Under "Attributes", de-activate "Read-only".

6) Click the "OK" button.

That should do it, but please confirm.

Another way is go into Excel, click Window>Unhide then find the PERSONAL.XLS file and save changes (so it will stay unhidden). You probably shouldn't give them the Personal file, though. A better method would be to copy the file and rename it to something else (this way all the formatting/functions you did will still be there). The probelm is that your PERSONAL.XLS file might conflict with their locally stored ones if you leave it with the same name. ----------------------------------------
If you are reading this, then you have read too far... :p
