Hi all,

Suddenly Macros in our Excel spreadsheets that were running last week have suddenly stopped running, with a warning that the Macro security is set too high.

When we look at Macro security it is set to "Medium". We then set it to "Low" and run the macro again, but the same waring appears, and when we look in security again, it is at Medium again.

Can anyone help?

Will

Macro security cannot be set by code so I would presume that this is being set by some form of "Group Policy".... can you ask your IT dept if they have done anything in logon scripts etc ?

Also, have you changed versions of excel recently ?

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Hi,

Sorry for late reply. That day I found some interesting articles about people having trouble with 2007 and 2003, and this is something we have done for only a small group of people (won't go into details, but it had to be done).

Anyway, it turns out the Auto-Save feature in both programs must work differently because when auto-save is enabled in 2007 and you open a 2003 spreadsheet, this problem exists. If you then turn off auto-save, and turn on autosave in 2007, the problem goes away.

Not sure what to do long term, but we have gotten people to turn off auto-save for anything they do with existing spreadsheets, opened in 2007, so it's a bit of a workaround problem at the moment until i can get further info from others having the same problem.

Thanks for your reply though.

Will,

Are we on the same page, in the same universe?

Your original post (macro security) seems to have nothing at all to do with your last post (auto save: 2003/2007).

What's the deal?

Hi Skip - seems to be an issue with 2003 / 2007 compatability. As I read it, the issue seems to be that the autosave feature in excel 2007 causes a problem with macro security when a 2003 spreadsheet is opened in 2007

Will - I presume the real issue here is that you have some users on 2003 and others on 2007? The most obvious way around this would be for everyone to use 2007 so that there is not an issue opening 2003 spreadsheets as they would all be 2007...

Hi, yes, sorry Skip, xlbo hit the nail on the head regarding that one. The autosave seems to cause the macro security issues.

xlbo - I agree that everyone on 2007 is the ideal for us IT peeps, but the management are hard to win that one over. Should be decided soon though (it's being discussed).

Thanks for the replies. :)
