Looking for help in creating an Excel macro, where the macro highlights a range - The starting point of the range will change and is determined by the user. Thanks for any advise.

What I am trying to do is automate the following:
Click on a cell to highlight it. Press the left mouse key to drag the highlight across three columns and down 1000 rows.

The place where the highlight starts changes, according to the users needs. I was thinking of a macro to let the user identify either the start of the range or the entire range and then a macro statement that selects that range - but I can't get the syntax to work right. Any help is much appreciated.

It worked! I sent you a star. Even though I'm not supposed to thank you here, I have to. Are there any books on Excel macros you could recommend?

Not supposed to thank someone here ????

Seems to be the fuel that keeps this place active and full of good answers!!! Keep on thanking if you want answers !!!!

I was just responding to a message by DaleWatson123321 in a thread I started called:
Excel macro to automate data input
You gave me excellent information there and I thanked you. DaleWatson123321 wrote a long response that stated the preferred method of thanks in this forum is to send stars.

Your excellent technical help with Excel really did three things for me: First you made me look like a hero at work. Secondly you inspired me to learn more about Excel macros and VB, and I am off to buy one of John Walkenbach's books on the subject. Lastly, you really lifted my spirit by knowing that someone could be so generous with their expretise and time when there is clearly nothing in it for him or her.

So you have my sincerest appreciation. And I will continue to post thanks as appropriate.
Regards
Lynn C
