Excel Link in Word

I have a word document that has several links to excel spreadsheets. The document was created on a computer running windows 98 and office 97 standard. In this environment the document works fine, however when I open the same document from a computer running windows 2000 or windows XP Professional with office 97 or office XP the word document only displays a portion of the excel links. If I re-create the link it still only displays a portion of the link.
