I'm using Indesign now (used to be a Quark user). I'm trying to link large Excel tables. The table has 8 columns and 57 rows and consists of numbers. These tables show up in Excel fine but when I link them to Indesign, the sizing is not right. How do I fix this? Even when I specifiy row height, etc, the sizing is still off. I'm desperate for an answer given we need to layout a whole book with lots of table and just converted the whole office to Indesign.

Is there a plug-in or a trick I can use?

In Quark, usually when you link Tables, they come out exactly or close to exact as they look in Excel.

When you use the place command, make sure that Show Import Options is checked. This will give you many excel import options. You might try Formatted table to keep it similar.

Make sure that the ID and Excel docs use the same measurement types: inches-inches, etc.

After placing your Excel table, you might try:

Window -> Table

You will find a number of things in the table pallette that can help you "fine tune" the way your table looks, such as row height, column width, inset adjustment, alignment, etc.

Good luck.

We had a similar issue at work. We host a large music festival and we post the stage schedules in the program. Well the issue is the schedule is done in Custom Access DB. The schedule are then exported to excel where we then create a pdf, and creat an image from that. its a round about way to do it, but it works and its high res. My plan this summer is to further investigate importing excel doc. But for now this makes life easier.
