Excel Hyperlinks Loading File As Read Only?

We have a large spreadsheet here at work with lots of hyperlinks to files on our network. For some reason, on one particular computer, when the user clicks a hyperlink, it opens the related file as read only. On other users computers, it doesn't. I've already checked the security permissions on the server hosting the documents, and the user has full read/write access to the directory, sub-directories and files. Also, when the user navigates to the file manually in windows and opens the file, it opens with full read/write permissions, so it definitely doesn't seem related to that.

It seems to be something within excel itself. I've spent the past hour or so scouring the internet for a solution to this problem, but have come up empty handed. Hopefully someone here will be able to help me out.

Thanks!

First, try and clear all .tmp files and all ~*.xls files from user's computer and see if resolves the problem.

Second (not very likely) check network folder from user's computer to see if any temp files exist on the server.

On the user's computer that exhibits the problem, is the file being opened in Protected View? A file in Protected View is read-only.

In Excel 2013, settings to control Protected View are in File...Options...Trust Center...Trust Center Settings...Protected View. On my computer, I have all three boxes unchecked. The one that might be causing problems (if checked) is "Enable Protected View for files located in potentially unsafe locations"

There may also be problems if the user has unduly strict File Block policies. Check the File...Options...Trust Center...Trust Center Settings...File Block menu item. Make sure that the Save boxes in that dialog are unchecked for the file types in question.
