Hello,

I put a hyperlink in Excel 97 on Win NT pointing to a PDF file. I get a message stating the the file may have a virus, are you sure you want to open it, etc, so I know the link is correct. I click on Yes, an Opening prompt appears on the bottom left of the screen. About 2 or 3 minutes later, I get a 'helpful' error message that Excel 'Cannot open the specified file'.

I type the same URL into my browser and it opens fine, so it's not a protection issue. I tried opening Abode before clicking on the cell (thought maybe EXCEL couldn't open the reader), same results.

I assume you can double-click this file in Windows Explorer or from your desktop and Acrobat Reader opens the file? What version of Reader are you using? v5 is the latest. I tested and it worked great on my PC.

Hello Dreamboat,

A little more info: I have Adobe Reader 4.0. When I click on the file it opens fine.

In Excel, when I create a cell of the syntax =HYPERLINK(" then double click on the cell in Excel is when I get the problem.

Just for laughs, I did the same thing in Word, created a hyperlink then clicked on it, and got the same results! Could it be some registry setting?

Thanks for the response.

Hank

First, uninstall Acrobat 4, and then download and install Acrobat 5. That's what I'd do!

Installing is easy, but make sure you uninstall 4 first through control panel-->add/remove programs.
