Hi gang,

I'm trying to create a report where the data is based in an Excel file. I'm adding the file by selecting Access/Excel(DAO) option from the datasource list. Everything works fine until I try and run my report. I get prompted to enter the userid and password for the "database". WTF?! There isn't one! Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,
Jack

Could be a misleading error. I know with MS Acces (probably the same with Excel) that CR will ask for a password anytime it has trouble reading the file.

Are you getting this error in the CR Designer or from within VB?

Have you tried via ODBC? Ken Hamady, On-site/Phone Crystal Reports Training/Consulting

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the response. I was getting the error with the vb app loaded and running. Just when it went to try and load the report it would show the error, but it wouldn't bomb the app, just didn't show anything in the crviewer.

I tried adding the odbc connection like you suggested, but for some reason it didn't play out. Apparantly there's some confusion as well regarding which xls file version they save to They're using office 97, but save versions as 95, to which I'm not sure what version it corresponds to in Crystal(Excel5, Excel6, Excel7, Excel8, etc.).

Anyway, I ended up just throwing the values into an access db and ran it off of that. Heh, turned out they were only running it that one time anyway.

Thanks again,

Jack
