Excel freezes when filtering a pivot table

Using Excel 2000 connected to a SSAS 2005 cube.

I created a pivot table by selecting Menu...External Data...Get Data...OLAP Cube.

I can drag-and-drop the dimensions into a pivot table. However, Excel freezes when I attempt to filter on any dimension by selecting the drop-down arrow to get dimension values. The drop-down doesn't work and Excel stops responding. Excel will respond after I leave Excel by selecting another application, then return to Excel.

This problem seems to have started recently. The pivot table works normally on another PC.

If it works OK on another machine I would suggest making sure the problem PC is fully updated and perhaps re-install the "OLE DB Provider for Analysis Services 9
