So, someone just came to me and said that they have some documents that are being shared in Excel. Sometimes folks will open them and the letters Cell reference letters (A, B, C) will be on the top and the numbers (1,2,3) will be on the bottom... I think they are all using different versions.. Some office 2000 and some 2003. Any ideas?
Thanks!!

Hi,
Sometimes folks will open them and the letters Cell reference letters (A, B, C) will be on the top and the numbers (1,2,3) will be on the bottom.
and OTHER TIMES?

"...and the numbers (1,2,3) will be on the bottom."

Sorry.. it was Numbers on the top where the cell letter references should be. And numbers along the side as well.
Insted of cell A:1 it was 1:1 and so on. Weird eh?
I think the workbook was corrupted. I just made a new one for him and I think it's okay now. But, if you have ever heard of this before... I'd still like to know about it. It might happen again.

Thanks,
Casey

Hi,

you have the option to set your Excel to RC reference style. i.e. A1 = R1C1, B5 = R5C2.

It's found under Options in the tab General. When this is ticked, you'll see that your letters have changed to numbers. If someone saves a workbook with this option ticked, it will still be in RC reference style if someone else opens it. By simply unticking the option, it will be changed back to letters.

Cheers,

Roel
