Hi there. I've searched and can't seem to find anything regards a formula I see in Excel.

Taking over some reports for a colleague that's left the company and they have formulas starting with =+ all throughout the spreadsheet and I can't seem to find/determine what the significance is.

Example formula in C2 is: =+ B2-A2.

Thanks

Mostly harmless I think.

Excel's preferred and documented formula syntax is to prefix a formula with =.

However, back in the day Lotus 123 and possibly Quatro also allowed any valid mathematical operator as the prefix character for equations.

It seems like Excel "tolerates" the old Lotus syntax by appending an = in front.

It's a juicy red fruit...ER um uh, vegetable.

Oh we'll, works the same either way. [glasses]

Thanks. Didn't think there was anything special about it.
