I have a spreedsheet that has data that I need to export to the mainframe. It consists of 3 columns of differing sizes, that I need to save as a fixed size. A subset of the data is:

1330-20-7 Xylenes (incl. META PARA-XYLENE) 215-535-7
71-43-2 Benzene 200-753-7
64741-63-5 Naphtha (petroleum), light catalytic reformed (Ben 265-065-1
108-88-3 Toluene 203-625-9
106-42-3 Para Xylene 203-396-5

The problem that I have is that the mainframe is expecting the first column to be 12 chars wide, the next 50, and the last 12.

Try as I might using different types of save formats, or messing about with text to columns (fixed) or even LEFT(a1,50), I can't get a fixed format on my saved file.

I would appreciate any help as I've exhausted my limited excel knowledge.

Many thanks in advance
Marc

hi,

1. set the FONT for the sheet to Courrier 8

2. set the column width for each column as desired

3. Save As a .prn file (this is a fixed width text file)
This will only save this sheet contents as the .prn. Your workbook can still be saved as an Excel workbook.

Skip,

Skip,
precisely, exactly, 100% what I was looking for.

Many many thanks.
