Hi, Tek-Tippers!

I have a worksheet in Excel 2002 which has a date field that autofills with today's date. We use this as a form, and the users were often forgetting to update the date, so we autofilled it.

The trouble is, it autofills every time the sheet is opened.

What I need is a sheet that autofills today's date when it's opened the first time, and then fixes that date when the sheet is saved with another name.

Any ideas?

The only way to automate this will be with VBA.

Hi Michelle,

This cannot be done with native Excel. It takes VBA (macro) code.

If you wish to pursue, and it's not really very difficult, please post your question in Forum707. You might also record a macro, using Tools > Macro > Record new macro... where you would COPY the column containing the Dates and then Edit > Paste Special -- VALUES. Turn off the macro recorder and copy you recorded code and paste it along with your question.
