We have a file in a folder that is always read only,
unless the admin opens it.

If we save it to a new name and folder it is still read
only.

If I log on and save any file to this folder it is read only.
the folder is not restricted. It is shared with full rights
to everyone.

Not sure if this is an Excel problem or NT problem.

Anyone have any thoughts? [sig][/sig]

is it an ntfs-partition? if so...
have you checked both ntfs- and share-permissions?

Just to elaborate on Nostradamus' point: I would suggest start with a specific user. Are they a member of any group that would have restricted or limited access? What happens if that user creates & saves a spreadsheet one level/directory higher? It's possible that the "owner" has a restriction. As you know with NT, the most restrictive permission will overrule any "Full Control" permission. In addition, as the user, I would try and save a word.doc into that directory. That may rule out the "Excel" variable to this problem - if the same results occur.

Hope this helps ~ [sig][/sig]
