I've done search around this forum and it appears that connecting to Excel from BOE is not feasible...

I have a report which links a spreadsheet to an Oracle table. The spreadsheet is updated daily with current Exchange Rates, this then links to an Oracle table, and the report runs perfectly through CR XI.

However, when I try and schedule this report through my CMC, i get a message which reads: "Unable to connect: incorrect log on parameters"

Under the Process Database tab, i have selected "Use original database logon information from the report" and the file path is pre-polulated and correct. The network drive itself is also available when i'm logged in to our CRXI Server box.

I've tried entering my Network login name and password too, but this doesnt seem to work?

Does anyone know of a solution around this, or indeed whether this is at all possible?

Thanks

Hi,
Your description makes it sound like the data for the report is actually in the Oracle database not the Excel sheet so why is there a file path and not an Oracle logon setting in the CMC?

I have a table coming from Oracle, and a Spreadsheet on the network drive.

In my Oracle table we have a field called "CURRENCY" and in this is EUR, USD etc etc.

I have created a spreadsheet with just two columns:

CURRENCY RATE
USD 1.67
EUR 0.87

I have linked the Currency field from the spreadsheet into the Currency field in Oracle, and am returning the RATE field from Excel.

We go in and update the spreadsheet every day, based on new Exchange Rate.

In the CMC the oracle credentials are fine, but its the spreadsheet it wont open and read from. When I run the reprot direct from Crystal though, it works without problems!

Thanks

You say that the network drive is available when you log in to the server, but is it available for the user ID that is running the BusinessObjects services? On installation, the ID is set to the services ID for the local machine. This ID will NOT have access to any network resources and needs to be changed to an ID that's valid on the network. We use an ID that has been created to specifically run the BO services which has been set so that the password never expires. If the ID already has been changed to a network ID, you need to make sure that that ID has access to the folder on the network where the Excel file resides. Also, make sure that you have it set up on a UNC path and NOT ON A MAPPED DRIVE.

Thanks for your post, this is really helpful, i'll speak with our IT team and see if they can investigate. Will post back with results!?!

By editing the properties in my report itself, through Crystal XI application, in my database expert and, and replacing the default "T:/ file location" with the UNC of "//SERVER//file location" the report works fine in BOE as the default login information is spot on.

Thanks for your advice, this was a huge help in pin pointing where the problem was!

Cheers
