using sql server and crystal xi

i am trying to have my report export to excel.

is there a way that i can have the column sizes different according the the length of each field

You need to manually stretch them out.

Exporting is very different between versions of Crystal, please post specifics.

One choice is Excel Data Only, but if you need to have the fields ALREADY stretched out after export (user doesn't want to have to do it manually), install a HP 3500CPS printer (standard Windows printer driver) and set it to a wide landscape mode (it can go 108" wide), so you hve plenty of room to make those columns wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide ;)

One thing I do on reports I know will be exported to excel is to not just stretch out the fields, but have them just touching each other, this seems to eliminate any stray columns which might otherwise be created during the export.

Interesting observation, pelajhia, the primary issue I believe was width, which means you must stretch them.

Try the above in the instance of columns not being wide enough.

Another common trick is to make each report 2 reports, and have a parmaeter up front which prompts the user for whether it is for Excel Export or not, if it is suppress the reports sections that are designed for display, if not, suppress a single details section which is designed for export.

Lots of tricks here, and BO has a whitepaper on tricks for exporting (Which I think states NOT to have columns touching, but trust me, you'll often find the opposite of their suggestions a slick way of doing something you require.

Someone should write the Crystal Voodoo book, cuz there sorely is a-plenty there ;)
