Hi All,

I have a user who is running Office 97 on XP proffesional. Whenever they try to open an Excel document by double clicking on the doc icon, they get the following error.

A document with the name * is already open. You cannot open two documents with the same name, even if the documents are in different folders. To open the second documen, either close the current document, or rename one of the documents.

Any Idea's.....

Thanks mot98

Close all apps and go to Start, Run and type
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /regserver "Age is a high price to pay for maturity."

Thanks xlhelp...that solved the problem.

xlhelp,

I had the same error & your fix worked! Could you please explain what might have happened to create the problem & what exactly happened to fix it. What does regserver actually do.

Thanks, Doug Corbett

It re-registers the application. Basically it re-asociates itself with the rest of the system. "Age is a high price to pay for maturity."
