I keep getting this error message when trying to open an Excel file "File format is not valid". I went to the Microsoft knowledge base and the conditions listed that would cause this error do not apply. The file extension is an .xls, so it is in the Excel format.

Has anyone else run into this?

Chances are someone opened it in Word and when they were prompted to save they said Yes.Or, the file is corrupted.

Please look at Microsoft articles # Q150368, Q224135 and Q179871 In love with Irene Jacob. Wife knows about it, Irene doesn't.

Thank you so much - that was the problem. I was able to open and work with the file using Word. Much Mahalos (Hawaiian for "thank you very much").
