excel disappearing toolbars

Can anyone shed any light on this?

When I add the circular reference icons to my toolbar,

(View|Toolbar|customise|circular reference)

they appear as required. BUT, as soon as I touch anything in the sheet, they disappear.

I'm confused.

Excel will only show the circular reference tool bar when there is a circular reference. Try this:
Add the tool bar then get it to disappear. Then force a circular reference. Something like

3
4=sum(A1:A4)
You should see the toolbar pop up. If you really want to see it, add it and drag to the top. Then create a CR on a new sheet then hide that sheet. It should stick up top.
