Hi,
I've pasted in a large block of data into Excel and have a column that contains date information in the format mm/dd/yyyy. I want to convert the existing dates in this column into the format dd-mm-yyyy. I have tried Format/Cells and have made a custom date to suit the format I need but it does not automatically convert existing dates to required format.

Any ideas on how I can achive this??

Many Thanx for any suggestions.

Is Excel recognizing these dates as dates?

Do you have an apostraphy in front of the dates?

Have you tried pressing F2 and then enter in one of the cells?

Hi Mike, thanx for replying

no apostraphy, f2 thing doesn't work for dates that are already there so i guess Excel isn't recognizing these dates as dates.

Is there not somewhere i can say convert everything that looks like 05/24/1999 to 24-05-1999 i.e
mm/dd/yyyy to dd-mm-yyyy

Normally the Format->Cells method should have taken care of that. When you look at one cell using the Format->Cells window, what format is Excel showing you for that cell?
