trying to extract data from a spreadsheet based on a field. I want to have the output of a filter go to a different file. I want to write this in VBA. Help??? can this be done.. I can't record the macro, too many records.

mattsuppok,

Have ONLY your table on one sheet.

Give the table a DYNAMIC Range Name -- faq68-1331 How can I rename a table as it changes size.

Save your Excel Database

Could be on another sheet in that file or in another Excel file, query your Excel database using Data/Get External Data... and follow the bouncing ball.

As your database table changes your query results can be updated via Data/! Refresh Data.

:)

Have you tried to play with AutoFilter ?
Feel free to do a keyword search in this forum for autofilter copy to get examples.

Hope This Help

I would dispute the fact that you cannot record the macro because there are too many records - if it fits in excel, then there are not too many records. What have you tried thus far ?
