is it possible to take a cell formatted as h:mm or 13:30 and convert it in an adjacent cell to 13.5 ????

I thought it should have been possible with =(RIGHT(A1,2))/60
at least to tell me what the minutes equal as a decimal, but I don't know how the formula cell should be formatted & every way I have tried gives me a very strange & incorrect number.

Thanks for any ideas & I will give them a try ;-)

Format as general.

Right() doesn't work because 13:30 is only a format - the actual serial number contained in the cell is .5625

See faq68-5827, Why do Dates and Times seem to be so much trouble? for more info on how Excel deals with dates and times.
