Hi,

I have an excel file on a network drive, my colleague has the file open, so when I open I get a read only copy. As soon as I open it, I get a prompt to update/dont update links, what I notice is that as soon as I click either option some of the cell values change.

I've tried changing calculations from automatic to manual but this doesn't seem to have any effect. No matter what options I look at, I get different cell values to my colleague.

Any ideas appreciated.

thx

Not sure why value would change if you choose not to update links. But you should both get the same answers if you both choose the same option when opening the file, unless:

Is the workbook linking to a file in a shared folder?
(Edit,Links.... will tell you)
If it links to a file that you each have a copy of in your personal folder....

Has your colleague got the linked workbook open?
(Edit, links, status should tell her)

Not sure of the impact but what is set under:
Tools,Options,Calculation, Save External Link Values

Regards

Gavin
