Using excel XP and Win ME. Open a file, make changes, and then try to save as a new file name, computer locks up. Usually have to hit Cntrl-alt-delete and shut excel down to get working again. Auto-Save saves just fine. Its a fairly long file name, but no unallowed characters involved. I've downloaded all the updates from Micorsoft, but no success. One other thing, when using save as and putting in the name of a file that already exists, the screen that prompts to replace an existing file comes up behind the excel program.

Saving to a local drive. I think when I've tried a different name its ok. The confirm menu, popping up behind the application instead of in front, maybe the majority of the problem.

The user tried saving a file just a little while ago. PC froze, he came to my desk, and by the time he went back, he was able to get to that confirm menu and save the file.

I've told him to hit alt-tab the next time it happens to see if the PC will let him scroll to the file save confirm menu.
