Excel - Calculate & Display Dates Before 1900 1

Does Excel calculate dates before 1900? Or how to get around it?

1/1/1900, in Excel, has a Date Serial value of 1. Excel does not handle negative Date Serial values. If you have such a value, formatted as a date, Excel will display # to fill the cell to the current width.
