Hi all,
I installed Excel 2007 (v12) alongside Excel 2003 (v11). I have an Access 2003 program that does some Excel automation and it is failing now ("Automation Error: Unspecified Error").

My references list specifically says "Microsoft Excel 11.0 Object Library" (not 12.0) but when I create the Excel object the .Ver = 12

How can it use ver 12 when it doesn't even have a reference for it in the vba project? And how do I make it use ver 11?
Thanks,
--Jim

Change your reference to 12. That should work with earlier versions of Excel.

Bubba,
Thanks, but that's a no-go.

It still fails on a chart object setting, I googled the chart object/excel 2007 and the consensus seems to be the Microsoft made it non-backwards compatible. MS says many of the constants, methods, and properties have changed but it doesn't provide any path to any workarounds that come close to compatibility.

In short it appears that unless one is using excel.11 automation to do only the most elementary tasks, much of ones code for excel.11 needs to be completely rewritten for excel.12.

Thanks for letting us know.

I will file that bit away as I too must move from Office 03 to 07.
