I am running Excel 365 ProPlus. Last week I was editing an xla file in Excel. Now, whenever I start Excel, I get the message

"Sorry, we couldn't find [path to xla file] Is it possible it was moved, renamed, or deleted?" I then click "OK" and Excel continues loading. Within Excel, with no document open, I navigated to File > Options > Advanced > General section and looked at the "At startup, open all files in" field. It is blank.

Where else would I look to find the setting that is causing Excel to look for the xla file at start-up?

Thanks

xla" or newer "xlam" is excel add-in file format. Classic excel add-in is an excel file marked as add-in, without window and possible to save probably only from VB IDE. You can use its functionality either by "installing" it (i.e. tell excel to open it on start and expose vba contents for other workbooks) or silently open and stay in the background (however in this case you can't close it). You may check File > Options > Addins for addins installed. Another possibility is that you somewhere in one of opened files you use function defined in this file, excel tries to open it, but can't find it.

combo

Thank you combo. It was listed as an installed add-in. I deleted it and that solved the problem. I am not sure how I "installed" it. It was not intentionally installed by me, anyway.

Thanks again.

Don't you think combo deserves a Star for his helpful advise?
