Hello there

We are using Office 2003 and some of our excel and word documents are being identified by the system as opened. For example one of my users closed one excel document and then when she tries to open it again, the application says is open by her already.

This is a problem we are experiencing lately with more than one user

Does anyone know if there is an issue with temp files and Office 2003?

We never had these sort of problems with Outlook 97

Any help will be appreciated

Could you give a little more details? The last reference to Outlook may be the clue.

I have posted a number of comments regarding opening files (attachments) from Outlook messages. Basically, it not a good idea. I suspect this is behind your problem. So.

1. Are these files attachments? The mention of Outlook makes me suspect they are.

2. Are the users opening these files from an Outlook message? That is, are they opening the attachment itself?

If 1 and 2 are true, then the file that is opened is a real file, NOT a temp file. Outlook creates a copy of the attachment file in a folder OLKxxxx under the username under Doc and Settings. Then it opens that file. To see this, open an attachment, close it, then open your application and look at Recent Files. You will see (most likely) C:\Documents and Setting\username\blah blah\blah blah.

Problems can occur when you open a file, attach it, open it from the attachment. There can be both version control problems, and "open file" errors because while the files are not exactly the same, they sort of are, kind of. Different locations...but.

Anyway. Please post more details, answering the questions 1 and 2. It may help. Thanks.
