Excel & Groupwise on Win 2000 Pro Problem 2

I have WinPro 2000, Office 2000 and Groupwise Remote 5.5. When I attempt to start Excel I get this message:
"This application uses Groupwise Librarys to store documents.
Groupwise is not currently running. To save or retrieve document
in a Groupwise Library you must first start Groupwise."
Even after starting Groupwise this occurs.
I Un installed Groupwise and got: "GWXL97.XLA could not be found" and a corrupt PSAPI.dll, or at least an error in it.
Obviously installing Groupwise was a mistake on this system. Does anyone know how to fix it? s-)

Since Posting, I have discovered in Groupwise that if you drill down; Tools, Options, Documents, OK, un-check the Enable Integrations box. Then move GWXL97.XLA to the "C" root. This took care of the annoying message. I still have the problem with the Close "X" being grayed out in Excel. I have to use End Task to get out. X-)

Try reinstalling GroupWise and unselect integration for all office programs. This should bring back the close X in excel.

In the Windows folder delete a file that starts with your first name and ends with 8.xl? (like mark8.xlb, mark8.xlt) then in program files>microsoft office>office>XLStart delete the GWxl97.xla.

That will clear everything up.

Cheers,
Mark ;-)

My name is David, I tried Da*8.xl? first. I had re-installed Groupwise and unselected integration prior to your posting. Should I do it again?

I searched my drives for *8.x* after trying all the other combinations, do you have any other possibilities I can try?

Thanks guys for your help, but the problem remains.

What version of excel are you using? Try dav*.xl*, the 8 has to do with the excel version. Also it uses your login name so if you don't login using david, use the first part of the login name.

Good luck,

Mark ;-)

I am using Office 2000, so the Excel version is 2000 as well
I did have ofice 97 prior to this. All my searches using an 8. with an .x in the extension and wildcards did not yield anything with my name. I tried every combination imaginable. Does Excel 2000 use 8's? (-:

I tried running the macro gwxl97.xla in Excel2000 and did not find the second file as I described in Office97. After deleting the macro in XLstart the app seemed to work normally. If you haven't already uninstall GW as Patrick recomended using the GW cleaning agent (SetupCA.exe is the file name. It installs itself on the workstation then you run it.) it has worked well for me in the past.

Cheers,

Mark ;-)

I did exactly as you & Patrick said. I downloaded the GWCA55us.exe file, uninstalled GW 5.5 then ran the downloaded (clean) file per the instructions. I now can close Excel 2000 normally. However, when I try to do a "save as" I get the "Cannot find GWXL97.XLA file" as before.
I did not re-install Groupwise 5.5 since my company has abandoned it. There is no reason for me to do so. My company has gone to Lotus Notes, another topic for debate.
Will I ever have a normal Excel? Lotus Notes is not installed on this computer as of this writing. By the way, I did re-boot.
Thanks guys, you have been helpful thus far. One more challenge? |-0

Check out TID 10017211, this has always worked for me.

Microsoft has a knowledgebase article about this problem. It's article Q327856. Search Microsoft's knowledgebase for gwxl97.xla and you'll see it. Follow the steps in it and it should clear up your problem.
