Excel 97 file will not open after reboot

I'm running Excel 97 on NT 4.0. I've been working on a relatively small file, (<1 MB) but it contains a fairly large number of calculated cells. (~5000). I am using VBA to link between two Excel files - one as a data storage area, one as my 'summary' file - mostly via VBA created formulas.

All works well until I shutdown and restart my computer. After I reboot, the file will not open - it causes Excel to hang-up right after it asks if I want to open macros or not, regardless of whether I click yes or no.

Is there something in VBA that could be causing this problem, or is it something with Excel or NT? I'm looking for any kind of help here since my tech support department is out of ideas.

TIA,
Matt
