Can this process be done? I am working in an Excel 97 workbook. Within the workbook I have two spreadsheets, Sheet1 and Sheet2. I would like to create an event on sheet1 that would filter the data in sheet2, with the results of sheet2 create a chart. I have searched several web sites and books and can not find an example. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks.

to reference cells in another worksheet (in the same file):

example: in a cell A3 in sheet1, type:
=AVERAGE(sheet2!A1:A6)

you must use the worksheet name followed by an exclamation point. also, if the name of the worksheet changes, the referenced names in the formulas should automatically change. i'm not sure if this is 100% accurate so you may want to make sure your worksheet names are permanent before referencing.

to reference cells in another worksheet in another file:

example: in file Book1.xls, cell A3, referencing cells in file Book2.xls, sheet3, type:
=AVERAGE([Book2]Sheet3!$A1:A6)

you must use square brackets around the file name. again, if the file name changes, the references should change automatically. when you do an external reference (to another excel file, the "links" option should be active (under menu/edit/links...) this may be necessary to use if you move the referenced file to a different directory/location.

as for the graph, i'm assuming that you want to graph the results on sheet1. set up the sheet1 spreadsheet to create a graph.

for further help, search for "reference" in the Excel help file.

hope this helps :)
