Every month I create reports for the previous month, including a chart of the data by day. I have a template set but I would like to have the chart title automatically reflect the month by referencing a cell. I read in a manual that you can select a cell as the title. However, I would like to have some text that is set (ie, group name), then reference a cell with the month, and end the title with some more set text. Here's an example:
"Bob's Store, (reference cell that says May) 2001, Widgets Sold"

Is this possible?

Try ...

="Bob's Store, "&TEXT(E1, "mmmm") & " 2001, Widgets Sold"

I think it's tough to do this within a Chart Title.

I would suggest picking a cell very close to the actual chart and creating a title using the technique LittleRedHat suggested, then printing this along with your chart.

Looks like one can place cell formulas in Legends, but not in Chart Titles.

Do one of the following:

To link a title, click the title.

To create a linked text box, click the chart area.

In the formula bar, type an equal sign (=).

Select the worksheet cell that contains the data or text you want shown in your chart.

You can also type the reference to the worksheet cell. Include the sheet name, followed by an exclamation point; for example:

Sheet1!F2

Press ENTER.

Sorry my last posting wasn't too clear. We have a line fault here and my Internet connection isn't holding and I rushed too much trying to get the info away before it broke down.

It's holding at the moment so I'll try again ...

="Bob's Store, "&TEXT(E1, "mmmm") & " 2001, Widgets Sold"
where E1 is the cell containing the date, brings up Andie's title as requested.

To bring this in as the chart title...

When setting up the chart enter something, such as 'title' in the title box. When the chart is set up, click on the title box to highlight it. Then in the formula bar type = and then click on the cell containing the title formula, eg Bob's store etc.

Enter then brings the required title into the chart.

The alternative is to highlight the title and type into the fomula bar

=Sheet1!A1 (where A1 is the cell containing the title formula)and enter.

Both display as Sheet1!$a$1.

Hoping this is clearer and resolves the problem.
