Hi to all the Excel gurus... I'm a new user with Excel 2007. I must say I'm extremely frustrated with it... but alas, that's another discussion for another day...

I'm hoping that someone can help me with this annoying problem... I'm trying to safe some Excel 2003 files back as Excel 2003 after making some changes using Excel 2007. However, everytime I try to save it, it says:

"Some cells or styles in this workbook contain formatting that is not supported by the selected file format. These formats will be converted to the closest format available."

However, Excel 2007 doesn't tell me WHICH cell contains these 'offending' format/styles... It's so irritating (maybe I'm a perfectionist) that I'm pulling out all my hair (or whatever that's left after trying to figure out Excel 2007's new TERRIBLE interface)...

Hope some of you guru can help me out... least I'll have to start pulling off my arm-pit hair ... and that's going to be really painful...

Thanks a million in advance.
- Joseph

I very much doubt there is a function that will tell you which format is not retrospectively supported. Best bet would be to save a copy in 2003 formet. Save a copy in 2007 format and compare the 2 by eye

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

If you list the formulas you used in your spreadsheet, maybe some of us who don't yet have Office 2007 will be able to pick out the unfamiliar formula that is the culprit.

John, I believe it's formatting, and not formulas that are the problem.

Cheers, Glenn.

I was thinking about GetPivotData, a function that was introduced in 2003.

Honestly, how am I ever supposed to get an answer in edgewise if I take the time to read the OP? [wink] [blush]

Sorry, Joseph, I somehow missed the word "format" in your Original Post: "Some cells or styles in this workbook contain formatting that is not supported by the selected file format. These formats will be converted to the closest format available."

Generally and usually it's the colors. When you save your workbook and you get the Compatability Checker come up and lists items which may not be compatible with previous versions, you can click the little find hyperlink for each listed item, which will take you to the cell(s) in question. But, like I said, it's mostly the color palatte, which is enhanced in 2007. The other big one is conditional formatting. Anytime you use the entire column/row, this could be an issue to in lieu of the row/column increase in 2007.
