One user is having trouble saving an excel file.

When she is done modifying a file, she clicked "save as", then she selected the original name and clicked "save". Then she got the message saying that the file is already exist, if she want to replace the existing file, she clicked "yes", then she noticed that instead of overwritten the original one, it created the "copy of the original name".

Now, she is having a lot of multiple copies of that original file. After a while, she does not remember which one is the latest version she used. It becomes a big problem.

Any idea how to fix this? Thanks.

hi,

Why select SaveAs rather than Save, if the user want to save the file AS IS???

Skip,

[glasses]Just traded in my old subtlety...
for a NUANCE![tongue]

If the Excel file opens as a [blue]"Read Only" [/blue] file, then the [blue]"Save as"[/blue] command will produce a [blue]"Copy of....".[/blue] In repeated cases it will produce [blue]"Copy of Copy of Copy of...."[/blue]

I thought I had retired...I was mistaken. I used to work for a large corporation; now I work for my wife.

This is a good point. open a file as a "Read Only" might be her case. But I just checked. she has "full control" permission for the file and she is the original author. what will make her open the file as "Read Only"?

Normally, the user would open a file from the "Recent Documents" list. Now, since she is having this problem for a while, what the user should do to be sure that the file is NOT open as "Read Only" mode.

Thanks.
