Anyone else have this issue? Any way around it?

The file sizes are pretty large but they are doing a complicated if / then vlookup to another workbook to return values based on multiple criteria.

it takes Excel about 4 minutes to save and if I so much as touch the keyboard in the interim the whole thing comes crashing down.

I don't want to turn autosave off because frankly autosave has on many occassion bailed me out of a crash...

Please if anyone has words of wisdom, guidance or such... please let me know.

many thanks!

Hi, Kristal

Sounds like one of the workbooks I inherited recently.

The long time on Save is owing to the fact that it re-calculates the workbook before saving. You might want to turn off Recalculate Workbook before Saving. If you are confident that the user can remember to Manually re-calculate before saving, then you can turn Autocalc off too.

Here is a good article on Improving Performance in Excel 2007
